Natural energy boosters for hard working moms.
Working moms need energy. Energy enables you to physically move and, perhaps even more importantly, it helps you to think clearly, creatively, and decisively. Where does energy come from? Why do we often feel like we don’t have enough? How can we create more?
Our physical energy levels can greatly impact our mood, focus, thoughts and feelings – for better or for worse. Think about how you feel when you have low energy. Can you concentrate? Are you at your best? Or are you impatient, crabby, tired, and not focused on the task at hand? How can you manage – and even increase – your energy levels? The following Steps to Increasing Energy are a great foundation.
Move little but move often. Enhancing and improving blood circulation throughout your day by moving and stretching at regular intervals can be beneficial for improving energy levels.
Tip: Stretch or engage in small movements (for example, ankle or neck rolls) every 30-45 minutes throughout your day; every 90-120 minutes engage in larger movements like standing up, walking or climbing stairs.
Eat light and eat often! Food is fuel. Making sure that you have enough (but not too much!) food in the system is really important for maintaining energy levels throughout the day. Be mindful of the quality and quantity of food you eat as well as the time elapsed between meals.
Tip: Try to eat every 3-4 hours that you are awake and fuel your body with foods that are rich in nutrients, fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Stop eating when you feel satisfied—before you get “full.”
Tip: When you eat a meal, follow the 5-handful rule: 2 handfuls of grains, 2 handfuls of fruits and/or veggies, and 1 handful of protein
Exercise regularly. Regular exercise is the number one way that you can increase your physical energy capacity. We all know exercise is good for our hearts, lungs, muscles and bones but did you know that it’s also good for our brains? Exercise can boost mood, brainpower, and focus.
Tip: A little bit goes a long way. Try to incorporate exercise throughout your day. Even 10-minute bouts of exercise can be beneficial. Get your ZZZs. In order to feel optimal energy levels, our body requires rest and recovery. The best recovery technique is sleep -** seven to eight hours** of it. Sleep is often considered an overrated pastime but science tells us a different story. Good quality sleep may be helpful for preventing and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and much more. In addition, sleep is critical for optimal performance.
Tip: Improve the quality of your sleep using these three sleep rituals
– Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
– Avoid caffeine after 2pm.
– Improve your fitness level. Those who are more fit tend to fall asleep fast, spend more time in deep sleep and wake up feeling more refreshed.
Following these steps may require some changes – some very simple – in your daily life. However, those small changes can have a big impact on your energy levels throughout the day. Energy is critical to our everyday performance at work and at home. Creating more energy for yourself – and managing that energy well – can make a tremendous difference in your life and the lives of those you touch.
